Make a Submission

One of the largest components of this project has been the inclusion of the Community.

We floated the idea of having Blazers, Burners and the wider Community send us audio to be incorporated in the Whisper Tree’s performance.

What Should I Send?

Spoken word, Poems, Prose, Poetry, Blessings, Affirmations, Original Music, Sounds of Nature – anything positive you want to share with others.

In what language? It doesn’t matter! We were surprised early on when we started receiving submissions that were other than English – how awesome was that! We do have our multi-lingual friends take a listen first so we can get an idea of what is being said.

Please make sure it is your own work and not the copywritten / property of others.

How to Do It

By far the easiest way to achieve this is with the voice recording facility on your mobile device. It’s surprisingly easy to record, review and e-mail your audio.

If you are looking for free recording software on your laptop / desktop device we recommend Audacity. We don’t recommend the built-in microphone on your laptop as it picks up a lot of noise which can be tricky for us to try and clean up afterwards. A good microphone can be had for very little these days.

“Professionals” will already have their own established method.

Where do I send it?

whispertree@blazingswan.com.au

Maximum file size may vary but 15MB seems about the upper limit on most e-mail systems

Please include any other information you wish about the recording. Naming the file with a meaningful name will also help identify it

Also let us know if you wish to make your submission anonymous – you won’t be mentioned / credited in any of our documentation or on-line posts.

Technical Info for the Overachiever

Irrespective of the submitted format we usually transcode to mono 48k 320kbps VBR MP3 which is a balance of quality, size and compatibility (we can’t use MP4).

Whisper Tree is composed of 15 dedicated channels of audio (and a 16th low frequency subwoofer mixdown).

You can submit complete “sound scapes” this way (15 channels randomly triggered).

The system also supports simultaneous playback of 15 channels either by synching the playback of 15 separate files or the use of formats such as BWAV. If this of interest to you get in touch so we can liaise.

We have a complete technical document covering design, testing and other considerations. Please reach out and ask for it if needed!
